There was a time when we’d look forward to finding a nice boutique hotel in Paris, Rome or Madrid. These days it’s campsite chic that gets us excited!
The conversations between us have changed since we were back home, especially now that we are camping in the national parks of southern Africa where things are a little different….
Yesterday was a good day. We managed to cook supper at the campsite in Mana Pools without any elephant, hyena, buffalo, hippo, warthog, baboon, impala or puff adders interrupting the preparation. The previous night we had wondered if it was worth leaving camp for a game drive the next day when all the animals seemed to be coming to us!
“If the elephant comes around to the left, hide behind that car. If it comes around to the right, hide behind this one closest to us,” suggested Giani. We’d been having a lovely chat around the campfire with a group of Italians when Giani, the group leader heard the feint rustlings of an elephant slowly climbing the banks of the river and into our campsite.
